Mobiliti, Inc has announced the release of Network/Unplugged 5.0. Users have been using Network/Unplugged for backing up user files including open outlook pst files incrementally, synchronizing user data transparently over LAN, VPN, wireless or the internet and accessing network files in the offline state. The new version 5.0 improves the administration and management of the software, makes bandwidth usage more efficient and utilizes data storage better. However, with its size hovering around a gigabyte, backup is not an easy task. Network/Unplugged provides a quick method to backup the mailbox incrementally even when it is open. The administration and management of the product in version 5.0 is expected to be easier as the central deployment kit of the product has been improved to use multiple profile files. Secondly, the log repository and reporting tool feature allows administrators to collocate Network/Unplugged client log files in one centralized network location. This feature is expected to complement the existing synchronization alert feature where administrators are automatically notified when there is an error or a special synchronization condition is raised. Network/Unplugged 5.0 uses the Lazy Real Time Backup solution to keep the source and destination always in sync, where the Lazy technique reduces the bandwidth consumption. Bandwidth throttling limits the synchronization process to use only a portion of the available bandwidth for better coexistence. These features couple with the existing file level differencing and compression techniques to keep the bandwidth usage to the minimum level. The 5.0 version can compress the backup destination to make optimal use of storage space. Compression while transmitting data was available in earlier versions too. Additionally, project wise exclusion of files, folders and extensions, grace period for aging files and control of user space helps in better storage control. The base product (client only version) of Network/Unplugged comes for $80. Adaptive file level differencing, compression, encryption and synchronization in disconnected state come with client server model, which is priced at $252.
